Please share your experience working with patients diagnosed with COVID-19

Dear Aggie Family:

The rule out phase has been the most stressful for me. These patients are not allowed to have visitors and we have been advised to have little contact with them. I try to make my time spent with these patients very valuable. I listen to them and their concerns, I communicate as much information to them that I’m allowed and I always follow up with the most recent conversation from their family member. Family members have been very involved with the care of these individuals because they can’t visit. Walking into a room with PPE on with a patient diagnosed with dementia has been difficult as well because these patients can’t see our face. They are in most cases very confused so this virus doesn’t make it any better, on top of not having any visitors to help reorient them. As a member of the front line, I’m trying my best to stay healthy, follow protocols, while staying up to date with the changing information to keep myself, my family, and all others safe.

What advice would you give to people during this pandemic?

Please stay up to date with COVID-19 city, state, and federal regulations. Monitor your own symptoms, as well as your family members, keeping a log may be helpful. Buy smart when shopping and stay as healthy as possible.
